Shanan offers home schooled students college preparatory tutorial courses. We provide knowledgeable and passionate tutors, as well as a rigorous line-up of courses which are the basis for high school graduation as well as a thorough preparation for higher education.
Important Information Before Applying
Shanan is for families who have homeschooled for at least one school year. It is not a good fit for families who simply want to turn over responsibility of overseeing their student’s progress to someone else, nor for families that simply want to check the courses off their list. We require students to work hard and be monitored closely by their parents.
The courses and tutors do not replace the parent as the primary teacher. Each student is expected to complete the homework outside of class time and be prepared to participate in class. Parents are expected to follow up to make sure the student is accomplishing the required homework.
Our courses meet Mondays and Wednesdays for 1.25 hours either once or twice per week. Classes run from 8:00 am to 2:45 pm. Monday/Wednesday classes have 80 total contact hours for the year. The one day a week classes, either Monday or Wednesday have 40 total contact hours.
All courses are held for the full year of 32 weeks. Fall is 16 weeks and includes a fall break during Thanksgiving. Start date is typically on the last week of August. There is a 4 week break at Christmas, between the semesters, and then we continue for 16 weeks in the spring, with a week-long spring break near Resurrection Day.
You may take as many courses as you need. Some families take four or five courses and some come for one course. We are a great complement to the dual enrollment programs at the local community colleges.
Course Tuition Costs: Varies by class and are for the full year of 32 weeks (16 weeks fall and 16 weeks spring) Course tuition costs are listed on the schedule and on the Course Offerings page.
Additional Notes: While it is our hope to meet your students face-to-face and mask-less in a classroom setting, we don't know what the future brings. We follow our church and the government guidelines. If necessary, we will be prepared to successfully conduct virtual classes. The registration fees and tuition deposits payable to Shanan Tutorials, LLC are non refundable whether we meet in person or are required to shift to distance learning. If a class is cancelled for other reasons, such as low enrollment, the fees will be refunded. No partial refund will be given for early withdrawal. Parents are responsible to pay for the full course as the tutor has prepared and counted on the attendance of their students for the year.
